October 1, 2010 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports the mother of a child that ate a pot laced brownie has been arrested for child endangerment.

The woman identified as Marisela Gadalupe Barraza age 19 of South San Francisco was arrested for child endangerment after she allowed her 4 year old daughter to eat a brownie containing marijuana.
According to Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe stated Barraza took her daughter to her sisters South San Francisco home on Sunday evening, where the sister noticed the child acting odd.

Barraza’s sister stated the 4 year old had slow speech, was acting strangely and had droopy eyelids.
Barraza when confronted by her sister about her daughter’s condition said the child had grabbed a brownie laced with marijuana to fast to stop her.

Barraza told police it was not her fault, the child grabbed the brownie. Then Barraza stated marijuana should be legal. According to Wagstaffe the mother and child spent Sunday night at the sister’s home and Monday Barraza went out.

After getting advice from a family member, in Barraza’s absence took the 4 year old to the hospital. Blood tests conducted on the child were positive for marijuana and police were called, according to Wagstaffe.
Barraza’s sister told police officers her sister was addicted to marijuana and has been irresponsible with the 4 year old girl in the past.
Barraza is being held in lieu of $7500 bail and Wednesday entered a plea of not guilty in San Mateo County Superior Court to a misdemeanor charge child endangerment. She has a Thursday court date.
